Solar power is an ideal sustainable solution for powering your home or your business. And the state of New Jersey has a range of incentives and tax credits you can use to your advantage to make it even more affordable. If you’ve been considering installing a solar system at home or at your business, now is an excellent time to invest in clean energy. Here’s why:

New Jersey’s Solar Incentives

New Jersey’s Successor Solar Incentive (SuSI) Program is divided into two sub-programs:

  • Administratively Determined Incentive (ADI): This program provides a fixed-incentive payment for residential, most commercial and industrial, and community net metered solar projects, and the payment is guaranteed for 15 years. The type and size of the solar project will determine the value of the incentive, and it generally ranges from $70 to $120 for every megawatt hour of energy the system produces.
  • Competitive Solar Incentive (CSI): This program is for projects larger than 5 megawatts and grid supply projects, and it involves a competitive solicitation process. The goal is to set the lowest financial contribution from rate-payers for solar projects that provide energy directly to the grid, and for larger-scale commercial and industrial projects.

  • NJ Solar Sales Tax Exemption: This incentive allows a 100% sales tax exemption on all major solar equipment you buy for your home, which means you save 7% upfront. All taxpayers are eligible for this incentive.

  • NJ Property Tax Exemption: Under this incentive, home and business owners are not taxed on the increase in value to their properties when a solar system is added.

Solar Tax Credit – NJ Residential and Commercial

The Federal solar tax credit reduces the cost of solar panels for both residential and commercial buildings. Also known as the Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC), it allows you to deduct 30% of the installation costs from your federal income taxes. Switch and Save Today with Green House Solar

Solar Installation Morris County NJ

In an age where renewable energy solutions are not just a choice but a necessity, the appeal of solar power has never been stronger. With its promise of reduced electricity bills, a lighter carbon footprint, and energy independence, transitioning to solar energy seems like a no-brainer. Yet, a surprising number of homeowners are still hesitant to embrace this clean, sustainable power source.

At Green House Solar, we understand the concerns that often cloud the decision to go solar. That’s why our team of solar panel experts in NJ are going to debunk the most common misconceptions that keep people from harnessing the sun’s abundant energy and saving money on electric bills. In this article, we’ll shed light on the top four reasons why people don’t go solar (pun intended) – providing the peace of mind you need to make a more informed choice.

#1. Solar Panels are Too Expensive!

This is no longer the case! Did you know that the Federal Investment Tax Credit is 30% for solar panel installations starting in 2022 and has been extended through 2032. That is major installation cost savings you don’t want to miss out on. Plus, you may be eligible for other incentives like the NJ Solar Sales Tax Exemption which involves decreased costs for equipment and the NJ Property Tax Exemption that ensures homeowners are not paying increased taxes for installing solar panels that enhance their property value.

Not to mention that zero dollars down solar is an option for many homeowners.  Let your electrical bill savings pay for your solar! If you’d like to know more about the solar incentives available and which ones you qualify for, give us a call – we’d be happy to help.

#2. Solar Panels Look Ugly!

The look of solar panels have really come a long way over the years. They aren’t as bulky and have a sleeker look overall. At Green House Solar, we install SUNPOWER® panels, which just happen to be industry leading in durability, efficiency and aesthetics. And if you’re still not sold on having panels all over your roof, we can discuss other options like ground mounts. Believe it or not, some homeowners actually benefit more when their solar panels are placed elsewhere on the property.

#3. Solar Systems Require Maintenance

Solar systems by SUNPOWER® are built to last and require minimal maintenance over their 25 year lifetime warranty. In the event that something does go wrong, your system components fall under the warranty that would cover replacement and repair costs. The best part about leasing a solar panel system is that repairs and routine maintenance are the leasing company’s responsibility, not yours. In layman’s terms, if you have a problem – just give Green House Solar a call and we’ll send over one of our solar technicians as soon as possible.

#4. Solar Salesman can be Obnoxious

There are some big box solar salesmen out there that are really pushy, which give the rest of us a bad rap. At Green House Solar, we will never force you into something you’re not comfortable with and it’s an honest conversation. We are passionate about solar energy and have no problem taking the time to explain all aspects of installation and maintenance thoroughly. If all your roofs face north and are covered by trees, we’ll be honest about solar not being a good idea for you. From safety concerns to overall energy costs, our team will guide you from steps A to Z. The last thing we want is for you to be disappointed, confused or blindsided by anything that comes along with your home solar system.

If you’d like to talk more about anything that has to do with home solar, please don’t hesitate to call us today! You could also learn more about our solar panel installation services by visiting our website at: https://greenhouse.solar

solar panels

At a high level, installing a home solar panel system is really establishing a power plant on your roof. So, it’s only natural to ask, is it safe? We understand that when it comes to your home and your loved ones living inside, safety is the number one priority – as it should be! That being said, the solar energy experts at Green House Solar are here to put your worries to rest. Our team has answered some frequently asked solar safety questions. Let’s take a closer look:

Is solar safe for my home?

There are a few aspects to Solar energy safety when looking at Residential Solar which typically involves panels installed on the roof. One aspect is the physical safety of the installation, the weight of them on your roof. Green House Solar’s team carefully inspects the condition of your roof, the age of your shingles, the sub-roof plywood and many other elements. Measurements are taken and calculations made to ensure that the roof structure is sufficient to support the weight of the solar system, including snow loads and anticipated wind shears and we will make or recommend appropriate repairs if necessary, prior to an installation. We will never place a solar array on a roof that can’t confidently support the weight for the lifetime of the panels. And with decades of solar experience, we don’t take shortcuts with materials or mounting options because they are faster/cheaper.

Are some solar systems safer for my home than others?

Another safety concern is the electrical aspects of solar safety. After all, the whole point of this is to have the panels generate and distribute voltages and currents to your home and possibly the grid, and potentially charge your backup battery system. All of this must be handled correctly and carefully to ensure maximum safety.

At Green House Solar, we prefer systems utilizing micro-inverters for our residential customers. Micro-inverters convert the electricity generated from DC to AC at the solar panel. This means that the electricity on the roof is lower voltage (and safer) with micro-inverters as opposed to string inverters. Micro-inverters also have other advantages that maximize production when partial shading is a concern.

One other thing to consider is the electrical knowledge base of the company designing and installing your solar system.  The owner of Green House Solar is a licensed electrical contractor. Our knowledge of code and general electrical work gives us a leg up on many installers who need to stick to one way of doing things.

What about solar back-up batteries? Which battery is safest for my home?

There are two main chemistry types of home energy storage batteries currently on the market – Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) and Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP).  Here at Green House Solar, we recommend and install LFP batteries exclusively because of their safer chemistry – they will not combust when punctured.

What kinds of permits and approvals are required before my system can be installed?

At the local municipal level, permit applications are submitted for structural and electrical approval, including fire official approval. State and utility submissions are also required. As is the case with many home improvement projects, following installation and commissioning, inspectors will review the work to ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.

What are some of the regulations that ensure my solar system is safe?

There are many regulations in place to ensure that the design of your residential solar system is safe. These have evolved over time so that solar systems installed today are safer than ever.  Green House Solar follows all requirements and as mentioned before, we are licensed electricians. Regulations include fire codes which specify the size and location of pathways for firefighters should they need access. In addition, there are specific requirements for disconnects and shutoff capabilities that will stop electricity production immediately should the need arise. Stamped electrical and structural engineering designs are generally required for residential systems and are part of the permit application process.

The Importance of Solar Panel Alignment

If you’re installing a home solar system, have you thought about solar panel alignment yet? The angles of your solar panels will determine how much energy they generate for your home, and ideally you want your solar system to generate as much energy as possible. Our team will take a closer look at why solar panel alignment is so important.

Why Is Solar Panel Alignment Important?

You want your solar panels to be placed at the angle that allows them to absorb the maximum amount of sunlight, which is when your panels are perpendicular to the sun. Not everyone’s roof allows for this possibility, so it’s important to work with a qualified solar technician who can place your solar panels at the best angle.

Factors That Affect Your Solar Panel Angle

  • Latitude: The further away your house is from the equator, the steeper your solar panels need to be tilted to get the maximum amount of sunlight. Someone who lives in Arizona, for example, will have a different optimal tilt to their solar panels than someone who lives in Minnesota.
  • The Season: The ideal angle for your solar panels is different depending on the season. Mainly, this is because during the winter the sun is much lower in the sky than in the summer.
  • Your Roof Design: This factor isn’t one that you have much control over, unless you’re building a new home from scratch. Whether your roof is flat or angled, a solar technician can advise on the best solar panel alignment for you.

What else affects your solar panels?

  • Roof pitch: The pitch of your roof refers to how steep the angles are. A flat roof has zero pitch, while angled roofs are all pitched, just at different steepness levels.
  • Shade: If you have a lot of tree cover on your property, this will need to be considered when installing your solar panels. Ideally you want as little shade as possible, because sometimes trees and shrubs can get in the way.
  • Property orientation: Some homes are north-facing, some are south-facing, and so on. You will have one part of your roof that is most suitable for solar panels, and the orientation of that part of the roof will determine the best angle for your solar system.

What The Rural Energy For America Program Means For Solar

The U.S. government, through various pieces of legislation and several programs, is incentivizing both homeowners and business owners to use renewable energy. We’ve seen a range of tax credits and other financial incentives rolled out recently, and people across the country are not hesitating to take advantage. One incentivized program in particular is the Rural Energy for America Program, called REAP. In this article, our team of solar panel installers will explain REAP, including who qualifies and how to apply.

What is the REAP Program?

The REAP is a government program that provides guaranteed grant funding of up to 40% of the value of the project and loan financing for up to 75% of the project value to small, rural businesses and agricultural producers for renewable energy systems, or to make energy efficiency improvements. According to REAP, agricultural producers may also apply for new energy efficient equipment, and for new system loans for agricultural production and processing.

Who Qualifies for REAP?

Rural small businesses, meaning businesses located in areas with a population of 50,000 residents or fewer, and agricultural producers in both rural and non-rural areas qualify for the funding available through REAP. All applicants must prove they are citizens of the United States, or can prove they are residing legally in the country. Borrowers must prove that the loan funds will stay in the United States.

How to Apply for REAP

To apply for the REAP, visit the United States Department of Agriculture’s website and select your state from the drop-down menu. Once you’ve chosen your state, the appropriate form and accompanying instructions will follow. This website also contains important information about deadlines.

How Green House Solar Can Help You with REAP

At Green House Solar, we work closely with several REAP specialists and can help you complete the necessary paperwork for the REAP program in New Jersey. The March 2023 deadline is quickly approaching, so we recommend you submit your application as soon as possible. Don’t miss out on this excellent chance to invest in a renewable energy system for your rural business in NJ.

If you’ve made the decision to invest in solar panels, you’re probably curious about the solar panel installation process. How much does it cost? What important factors do you need to consider? What are all the elements involved? What should you expect?

Home solar systems are becoming more common since they are now more affordable. We’re also seeing more people desiring to break free from their city’s electricity grid and to generate free, clean energy for their household. Just as your home is unique, the specific type of solar system you install will also be unique. Home solar systems depend on several factors, and these factors will determine your installation needs, as well as your cost. Let’s explore some of these factors:

  • Roof size and shape. Most of us live in homes with slanted roofs, so in order for the solar panels to stay in place, it sometimes requires a bit of extra equipment to be installed to secure your panels. Some roofs are not suitable for solar panels, period. But don’t worry, the panels can be installed on another area of your property instead, such as a front or side lawn.
  • Size of your home. If you live in a large, five-bedroom home and want as many solar panels as possible, then you’ll have different needs from someone who lives in a smaller, one-bedroom ranch. It’s worth noting that larger solar installations aren’t that much more time consuming – installation is usually quick and tidy.
  • Solar battery storage and other additional elements. Solar battery storage allows you to store extra energy your panels generate for use at a later date. Home solar systems have several additional elements you can use with your panels, and the team at Green House Solar would be happy to discuss them with you.

Solar Installation Cost Morris County NJ

Do you have questions about solar panel installation costs? Many people know how solar panels work and that they reduce your monthly energy bill, but not many people understand the details associated with installation costs and other associated costs. In this article, we’ll review some of the most commonly-asked questions about solar panels and installation costs.

  • Is there a standard size solar panel system, or are there different size systems to choose from?

Each system is different and your solar panels will be customized to fit your roof. Solar systems range from $3,500 to $10,000 and your system will depend on a variety of factors, including property size, roof shape, and the material of your roof.

  • Does the quality of the solar panels matter?

As the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Solar panels will provide your home with clean energy for years to come, and we recommend investing in the highest quality solar panels on the market. Green House Solar uses Sunpower solar panels exclusively because after many years of installing and using other types of panels, we came to the conclusion that Sunpower was simply the best. They are of higher quality, work more efficiently, and are more design forward (better aesthetics) than any other panels we’ve tried in the past.

  • Will I have to pay to modify my roof before installation?

In short, no. If your roof isn’t suitable for solar panels, our team will find another location on your property where we can install them. Many people have solar panels installed on their lawn instead of their roof.

  • Will solar panels eliminate my energy bill entirely, or just reduce it?

Solar panels can accomplish both, but it depends on your budget and the type of system your property can accommodate. Talk to your solar installer who can help you make the most informed decision.

  • How long will it take to pay off the cost of my system via reduced energy bills?

This depends on several factors. Generally speaking, you can get these systems purchased and installed without putting up any money, and use your savings on your utility bills to pay it off over time, typically within 5-7 years. However, your solar installer can give you a more accurate timeline of what costs to expect.

  • Will I need to pay to replace my solar panels frequently?

No, high-quality solar panels have a very long life span and are generally low maintenance. Once installed, they’ll be there for many years to come!

  • Does the cost of installation also include post-installation support?

You’ll undoubtedly have questions after installation, so ensure you choose a solar company that includes ongoing customer support in the initial estimate.

Solar companies Morris County NJ

When it comes to “off-grid” power there are two popular choices: solar panels and generators. If you’re looking for a way to supply energy to your small business, you may be wondering which power source is best for your situation. In this article, we examine the benefits of both, and help you decide which might work best for you. Let’s take a look.

Benefits of solar panels

  • Clean energy. We’re all striving to be more environmentally friendly in our daily lives. Because solar panels take sunlight and turn it into power for your home, they are a completely clean and renewable source of energy.
  • Lower monthly energy bills. In addition to being eco-friendly they’re also cost-effective, with many people seeing monthly savings soon after installing their solar panels. As a small business owner you’re undoubtedly looking for cost saving opportunities, and solar panels are a great way to start.
  • Free to use. With solar panels, there’s no need to buy fuel in order to keep them running and sunlight is free. The only things you’ll need to buy are the solar panels themselves, and then you’re ready to start harnessing the power of the sun.

Benefits of generators

  • They’re able to continuously supply your business with a limitless supply of electricity. Unlike solar panels, generators don’t need to store up energy. You simply plug it in and use the power.
  • A generator’s performance won’t be affected when there’s no sun. Although it’s not true that solar panels need bright, shining sun at all times to function properly, they do require sun to recharge. Generators, on the other hand, function at full capacity regardless of access to sunlight, so you can stick them in a dark room and they’ll work just fine.

A NJ solar company you can trust

As mentioned above, it’s commonly believed that solar panels are only useful in extremely sunny climates, like Florida or Arizona. However, the truth is solar panels can absorb and store sunlight even on overcast days, and they can still supply your home with power when it’s raining, snowing, or dark outside. If you’re ready to make the switch to solar panels for your home or your small business, your local solar company can recommend what will work best for your unique situation.
