Generators have held the lay of the land for quite some time. However, that doesn’t mean it’s the right solution. It’s definitely not the most fuel-efficient compared to solar battery backup. Although solar battery storage is only available to homeowners who already have solar panels installed – investing in this energy solution is a no-brainer with the way our economic climate is heading. Not to mention, with the Federal Investment Tax Credit now being 30% for installations through the year 2032 and other financing incentives available, it has become way more affordable to the average homeowner. Let’s take a closer look at generators and narrow down why solar storage can be the ideal solution for you.

Generators vs. Solar Battery Backup: Making the Switch

Generators have long been the go-to solution for backup power, but are they really the best choice for your home? Let’s weigh the pros and cons:

Pros of Generators:

  • Ease of Use: With generators being a familiar technology, they’re easy to buy, install, and maintain.
  • Dependability: Regardless of the weather, generators can reliably power your home or business day and night.
  • Portability: Many generators are portable, offering flexibility in placement for emergency backup power.

Cons of Generators:

  • Environmental Impact: Generators rely on fossil fuels, releasing CO2 and other greenhouse gasses during each use.
  • Safety Concerns: Proper usage is crucial to prevent hazards like carbon monoxide poisoning, electrical shocks, and fires.
  • Noise and Odor: Generators can be noisy and emit unpleasant smells, adding to pollution.
  • Underutilization: Often sitting idle for most of the year, generators can be seen as an inefficient use of space and resources.
  • Maintenance Costs: Generators require regular servicing, refueling, and maintenance, adding to ongoing expenses.

So, what’s the alternative? Solar battery backup systems offer a cleaner, more sustainable solution. Here’s why they might be a better fit for your home:

Solar Battery Backup Considerations

Configuration: Choose between AC- or DC-coupled systems based on your installation needs.

Capacity: Larger batteries store more solar power, helping offset a larger portion of your energy bills.

Cost: While initial costs may be higher, solar batteries offer long-term savings by harnessing free energy from the sun.

Design: Many batteries now come in aesthetically pleasing encasements to blend seamlessly with your home.

Warranty: Look for warranties that offer confidence in the technology’s lifespan and performance.

The transition to renewable energy sources is no longer an option, but a necessity for the sake of our future. As we grapple with the impacts of climate change, businesses and apartment buildings can play a significant role in reducing their carbon footprint while enjoying the financial benefits of solar power solutions. In this article, we will explore the potential of affordable solar power for commercial property owners, highlighting the advantages and incentives available in New Jersey, and how Green House Solar can help you make the most cost-effective choice for your property.

Indisputable Benefits of Businesses Going Solar

Before delving into the specifics of solar incentives in New Jersey, it’s crucial to understand that not all businesses can easily go solar. This is especially true for tenants who don’t own the buildings they occupy. However, for property owners, installing solar panels and solar battery backups can be revolutionary for your energy consumption. Here’s why:

Energy Savings: Solar power can significantly reduce monthly electricity bills, providing substantial savings over time. This cost reduction is a long-term investment in sustainability and financial stability.

Income through Net Metering: Property owners can also benefit from net metering. The primary advantage of this program in New Jersey is that it credits property owners for the excess power they supply back to the grid. This credit can offset electricity charges when they need to draw power from the grid. This program essentially turns your property into a mini power plant, with the potential to earn you money.

Tax Benefits for Commercial Businesses: For commercial property owners, the tax code allows for Modified Accelerated Cost Recovery System (MACRS) Depreciation over a five-year period. However, there’s generally a residual amount left after the fifth year, which can be depreciated in the sixth year. This tax benefit can significantly reduce the upfront costs of solar installation.

New Jersey’s Solar Incentives

As we briefly touched on earlier, New Jersey property owners can further amplify the advantages of solar power with state-specific incentives:

The Successor Solar Incentive (SuSI) Program is divided into two sub-programs, designed to support various solar projects.

Administratively Determined Incentive (ADI): For residential, most commercial and industrial, and community net metered solar projects, this program offers a fixed-incentive payment guaranteed for 15 years. The value of the incentive is determined by the type and size of the solar project and typically ranges from $70 to $120 for every megawatt hour of energy the system produces.

Competitive Solar Incentive (CSI): Geared towards larger projects exceeding 5 megawatts and grid supply projects, this program follows a competitive solicitation process. The goal is to set the lowest financial contribution from rate-payers for solar projects that provide energy directly to the grid. For larger-scale commercial and industrial projects, this incentive opens the door to significant savings and potential income.

The type and size of the solar project will determine the value of the incentive, and it generally ranges from $70 to $120 for every megawatt hour of energy the system produces.
  • Competitive Solar Incentive (CSI): This program is for projects larger than 5 megawatts and grid supply projects, and it involves a competitive solicitation process. The goal is to set the lowest financial contribution from rate-payers for solar projects that provide energy directly to the grid, and for larger-scale commercial and industrial projects.

  • NJ Solar Sales Tax Exemption: This incentive allows a 100% sales tax exemption on all major solar equipment you buy for your home, which means you save 7% upfront. All taxpayers are eligible for this incentive.

  • NJ Property Tax Exemption: Under this incentive, home and business owners are not taxed on the increase in value to their properties when a solar system is added.

Solar Tax Credit – NJ Residential and Commercial

The Federal solar tax credit reduces the cost of solar panels for both residential and commercial buildings. Also known as the Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC), it allows you to deduct 30% of the installation costs from your federal income taxes. Switch and Save Today with Green House Solar

In an age where renewable energy solutions are not just a choice but a necessity, the appeal of solar power has never been stronger. With its promise of reduced electricity bills, a lighter carbon footprint, and energy independence, transitioning to solar energy seems like a no-brainer. Yet, a surprising number of homeowners are still hesitant to embrace this clean, sustainable power source.

At Green House Solar, we understand the concerns that often cloud the decision to go solar. That’s why our team of solar panel experts in NJ are going to debunk the most common misconceptions that keep people from harnessing the sun’s abundant energy and saving money on electric bills. In this article, we’ll shed light on the top four reasons why people don’t go solar (pun intended) – providing the peace of mind you need to make a more informed choice.

#1. Solar Panels are Too Expensive!

This is no longer the case! Did you know that the Federal Investment Tax Credit is 30% for solar panel installations starting in 2022 and has been extended through 2032. That is major installation cost savings you don’t want to miss out on. Plus, you may be eligible for other incentives like the NJ Solar Sales Tax Exemption which involves decreased costs for equipment and the NJ Property Tax Exemption that ensures homeowners are not paying increased taxes for installing solar panels that enhance their property value.

Not to mention that zero dollars down solar is an option for many homeowners.  Let your electrical bill savings pay for your solar! If you’d like to know more about the solar incentives available and which ones you qualify for, give us a call – we’d be happy to help.

#2. Solar Panels Look Ugly!

The look of solar panels have really come a long way over the years. They aren’t as bulky and have a sleeker look overall. At Green House Solar, we install SUNPOWER® panels, which just happen to be industry leading in durability, efficiency and aesthetics. And if you’re still not sold on having panels all over your roof, we can discuss other options like ground mounts. Believe it or not, some homeowners actually benefit more when their solar panels are placed elsewhere on the property.

#3. Solar Systems Require Maintenance

Solar systems by SUNPOWER® are built to last and require minimal maintenance over their 25 year lifetime warranty. In the event that something does go wrong, your system components fall under the warranty that would cover replacement and repair costs. The best part about leasing a solar panel system is that repairs and routine maintenance are the leasing company’s responsibility, not yours. In layman’s terms, if you have a problem – just give Green House Solar a call and we’ll send over one of our solar technicians as soon as possible.

#4. Solar Salesman can be Obnoxious

There are some big box solar salesmen out there that are really pushy, which give the rest of us a bad rap. At Green House Solar, we will never force you into something you’re not comfortable with and it’s an honest conversation. We are passionate about solar energy and have no problem taking the time to explain all aspects of installation and maintenance thoroughly. If all your roofs face north and are covered by trees, we’ll be honest about solar not being a good idea for you. From safety concerns to overall energy costs, our team will guide you from steps A to Z. The last thing we want is for you to be disappointed, confused or blindsided by anything that comes along with your home solar system.

If you’d like to talk more about anything that has to do with home solar, please don’t hesitate to call us today! You could also learn more about our solar panel installation services by visiting our website at:

solar panels

At a high level, installing a home solar panel system is really establishing a power plant on your roof. So, it’s only natural to ask, is it safe? We understand that when it comes to your home and your loved ones living inside, safety is the number one priority – as it should be! That being said, the solar energy experts at Green House Solar are here to put your worries to rest. Our team has answered some frequently asked solar safety questions. Let’s take a closer look:

Is solar safe for my home?

There are a few aspects to Solar energy safety when looking at Residential Solar which typically involves panels installed on the roof. One aspect is the physical safety of the installation, the weight of them on your roof. Green House Solar’s team carefully inspects the condition of your roof, the age of your shingles, the sub-roof plywood and many other elements. Measurements are taken and calculations made to ensure that the roof structure is sufficient to support the weight of the solar system, including snow loads and anticipated wind shears and we will make or recommend appropriate repairs if necessary, prior to an installation. We will never place a solar array on a roof that can’t confidently support the weight for the lifetime of the panels. And with decades of solar experience, we don’t take shortcuts with materials or mounting options because they are faster/cheaper.

Are some solar systems safer for my home than others?

Another safety concern is the electrical aspects of solar safety. After all, the whole point of this is to have the panels generate and distribute voltages and currents to your home and possibly the grid, and potentially charge your backup battery system. All of this must be handled correctly and carefully to ensure maximum safety.

At Green House Solar, we prefer systems utilizing micro-inverters for our residential customers. Micro-inverters convert the electricity generated from DC to AC at the solar panel. This means that the electricity on the roof is lower voltage (and safer) with micro-inverters as opposed to string inverters. Micro-inverters also have other advantages that maximize production when partial shading is a concern.

One other thing to consider is the electrical knowledge base of the company designing and installing your solar system.  The owner of Green House Solar is a licensed electrical contractor. Our knowledge of code and general electrical work gives us a leg up on many installers who need to stick to one way of doing things.

What about solar back-up batteries? Which battery is safest for my home?

There are two main chemistry types of home energy storage batteries currently on the market – Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) and Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP).  Here at Green House Solar, we recommend and install LFP batteries exclusively because of their safer chemistry – they will not combust when punctured.

What kinds of permits and approvals are required before my system can be installed?

At the local municipal level, permit applications are submitted for structural and electrical approval, including fire official approval. State and utility submissions are also required. As is the case with many home improvement projects, following installation and commissioning, inspectors will review the work to ensure compliance with applicable codes and ordinances.

What are some of the regulations that ensure my solar system is safe?

There are many regulations in place to ensure that the design of your residential solar system is safe. These have evolved over time so that solar systems installed today are safer than ever.  Green House Solar follows all requirements and as mentioned before, we are licensed electricians. Regulations include fire codes which specify the size and location of pathways for firefighters should they need access. In addition, there are specific requirements for disconnects and shutoff capabilities that will stop electricity production immediately should the need arise. Stamped electrical and structural engineering designs are generally required for residential systems and are part of the permit application process.

Safe and Affordable Home Solar Panels in New Jersey

By choosing solar panels installed by licensed electricians, you not only enjoy the economic benefits of solar energy, but also do your part to create a cleaner and greener future. At Green House Solar, we can address all your safety concerns, help you navigate the process of installing solar panels, and take advantage of all the tax incentives available. From design to installation, our team will be there every step along the way to ensure a safe and reliable solar energy system for your home.

How Do Solar Power Inverters Work

People across the United States are growing increasingly interested in solar power and other renewable sources of energy. Solar systems are now more common, more affordable, and more efficient than they were several decades ago. To boot, the U.S. government has passed several pieces of legislation that offer tax credits and other incentives for people who install home solar systems.

While a solar system is made up of many components, the solar power inverter is perhaps the most crucial. So what is this piece of equipment, and how does it work? Let’s take a look.

What Is a Solar Power Inverter?

A solar power inverter is a type of electric converter that takes the direct current electricity generated by your solar panels and converts it into alternating current. Alternating current is the standard flow of electricity used by domestic appliances and electric circuits. Essentially, it turns sunlight into renewable power for your home.

How Solar Power Inverters Operate in Your Home Solar System

When the sun shines down onto your solar panels, they absorb the light and send the energy to the photovoltaic cells. This energy produces direct current, which is then sent directly to the inverter. From there, the energy will be converted into alternating current then sent into your home or stored in a solar battery.

Types of Solar Power Inverters

  • Battery inverters: A battery inverter is a good choice if you need to fit your inverter into an existing solar system, or if you want your battery to be in a separate spot than your solar panels.
  • Microinverters: Microintervers are about the size of a small book, making them a convenient option if space is a concern. You’ll need one microinverter per solar panel, and each inverter optimizes one solar panel efficiently. Due to their many advantages, Green House Solar designs the vast majority of our systems with microinverters.
  • String inverters: String inverters are another choice for residential solar systems, and they’re called this because they’re connected to a string of solar panels.
  • Central inverters: The largest type of inverter, a central inverter is used for commercial or industrial purposes, in systems that require hundreds of kilowatts of volume.

Are Solar Power Inverters Weather Proof?

Certain solar inverters are weatherproof, while certain types aren’t. The placement of your solar inverter is important, and if you need extra protection from the weather we recommend installing a weather-proof cage. Speak with your solar installer to learn more about which solar inverters are weatherproof, and which choice is best for your property.

If you’d like more information about solar power inverters, to learn which one would operate best with your home solar system, please contact our team at Green House Solar today or visit us at:

Are you a small business owner who is considering investing in solar power for your company? Solar panel systems have greatly increased in popularity among homeowners across the country, and many business owners are also investing in solar panels in order to run their businesses using completely clean, renewable energy from the sun. In this article, our team will discuss the benefits and cost factors of choosing solar power for your small business.

Benefits of Solar Energy for Small Businesses

  • Decrease your monthly energy bills. Keeping your air conditioning and heating systems pumping year round, as well as your lights on, results in big monthly electricity costs. After the initial cost of installation, you’ll quickly see your energy bills decrease without seeing any interruptions in performance.
  • Tax credits. The Federal Government offers a 26% rebate towards the overall cost of your solar system. So if the total cost of your solar system installation is $20,000, you are eligible for a $5,200 tax credit.
  • Reduce your carbon footprint. We all have a role to play in reducing pollution, reducing carbon emissions, and making more environmentally friendly choices. Solar power is an entirely free, clean, and renewable energy source to take advantage of.

Solar power gives you a great return on investment

The sooner you pay off the installation cost of your solar system, the sooner you’ll begin to see a return on investment (ROI). In fact, for small business owners who have solar panels, it’s typical to see a double-digit ROI for their solar system – these valuable savings are incredibly important for small businesses operating on smaller margins than large corporations.

Solar power reduces your business operating costs

How many times has your HVAC system broken down, leaving your business without air conditioning or heating? In addition to saving money on regular monthly energy bills, solar panels also eliminate the need for expensive upgrades on your HVAC systems and emergency repair costs.

How Much Does Solar Cost for Businesses?

The cost of installing a solar system for your business will be determined by several factors:

  • The energy demands of your small business
  • The make and model of solar panels you choose
  • The type of roof you have

Our team will be happy to discuss these details and provide you with an accurate estimate.

For more information about solar panel systems for your small business, or if you have any questions, please contact our team at Green House Solar today. Discover how solar power can help you reduce your carbon emissions and save on monthly energy bills by visiting our website at:

If you’re in the market for a trusted home solar supplier, you may be wondering how to choose the best company for your needs. At Green House Solar, we’ve put together a helpful checklist of must-haves for any solar supplier, and we recommend employing a company that ticks all of these boxes:

Choose a company that’s been around for more than 10 years. Due to the growing popularity of solar power, we’ve seen many solar companies pop up over the last few years. While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, the problem is that if these companies go under, their work and their products are no longer covered under any warranties they issued. Do your research and go with a company that has a proven track record of satisfied customers.

They put safety first. Unfortunately, in the interest of finishing sometimes-complex solar installations ahead of time and under budget, some companies use shortcuts and don’t use the safest products on the market. Ask each solar company to explain their safety standards and procedures, and ask them to verify the safety ratings of all the products they use.

Independently verify any company’s stellar reviews. Most solar suppliers will claim they have hundreds of satisfied customers, but we recommend verifying this for yourself. Independent consumer review sites like TrustPilot  provide you with honest, unbiased reviews from people across the country.

Ensure they have reliable after-sales support. You don’t want a solar company that simply installs your solar panels then disappears. Your solar panels will require repairs and maintenance over the years, and you’ll undoubtedly have questions as time goes on. Make sure to choose a solar company that provides support throughout the life of your solar panels.

Solar panel installation and maintenance

As mentioned above, solar panels will require some maintenance from time to time, but you’ll be happy to know that maintenance is generally very minimal, and solar panels rarely need repairs. With that said, your home solar company should also be available to you for any repairs and maintenance you need after installation. People enjoy the lower energy bills they get with solar panels, and they also enjoy minimal maintenance and repairs.

A trusted solar supplier will offer you guidance and support throughout the entire process, from installation all the way through to when your solar panels need replacing, which on average is every 25 – 30 years.

For more information about Green House Solar, or if you have any questions about residential solar panels, please contact us today. Discover why so many people in Morris County, New Jersey have chosen us as their trusted home solar supplier. We look forward to hearing from you.

solar company

Have you decided to invest in renewable energy and install solar panels in your home? Solar panels are an excellent alternative to traditional energy, and “going off the grid” has many benefits, including reducing your greenhouse gas emissions and saving money on your monthly energy bills. We recommend researching your potential solar suppliers thoroughly before choosing one to install your panels, and there are questions you can ask to help you narrow your search.

Here’s what you should ask:

  1. Are you licensed and insured? All solar companies should be able to show you their credentials and relevant certifications, and you should receive a copy of their insurance policy before any installation work begins.
  2. What kind of warranties and replacement services do you offer? Solar panels generally have a very long life and require minimal maintenance, but a reputable solar company will offer you a reasonable warranty.
  3. Is my roof strong enough to support solar panels? Solar installers conduct structural reports before starting any installation work to determine if your roof, in its current condition, can support the solar panel system you want.
  4. Can you also install a solar backup battery system? What about other solar storage? Solar backup and solar storage are used to hold any extra energy you generate, and we’ll explain more about this below.
  5. Are there any extra costs that are not included in the estimate? Every company has different processes for estimating costs associated with installing and maintaining solar panels. Ask for an itemized estimate, and ask what additional costs you’ll incur that aren’t listed on the estimate. Solar panels are now very affordable and most homeowners find the total cost is cheaper than they expected, not to mention the energy bill savings each month.

Solar backup and solar storage: what you need

Solar backup systems and solar storage systems are used to hold excess energy generated by your solar panels. Homeowners have two choices when it comes to their excess energy: they can sell it back to the grid and receive credit for it, or they can divert it to a solar storage system for use at night. Many homes have increased energy usage at night, and using energy stored in a solar backup system means you don’t have to purchase additional energy from the grid.

If you’d like more information about solar backup and solar storage, or if you have any questions, please contact Greenhouse Solar today. Our team is standing by and ready to help. Discover why we’re the preferred solar supplier for so many people in and around Morris County, NJ. We look forward to hearing from you.
